Discover more about Latin rhythms

Music has been a means of expression since the existence of mankind, however the historical fact that marked the origin of Latin music was the arrival of Spaniards to America. As cultures mixed, flamenco, Jewish, Arab, African and indigenous sounds were also fused. Latin American music arose mainly as a complement to traditional dances and religious expressions in each of its countries of origin, but over the years it was transformed into a cultural expression, representative of each country and culture. For example, the salsa we know today is a mixture of Cuban and Puerto Rican popular music, created by Caribbean immigrants in the early 70's in New York. Each country has contributed great musical gems, for example Brazil is represented by bossa-nova, Latin jazz, samba and lambada. In Latin America, Argentine tango, vallenato and Colombian cumbia, Dominican merengue and bachata, Jamaican reggae, Mexican rancheras or boleros, danzones, rumba and Cuban chachachá stand out.

Did you know that the impact of Latin music is so great that there are certain rhythms that are considered cultural heritage of the Americas? Some of them are: bachata, rumba, vallenato, marimba and mariachi to mention a few.
